CHEMICALS FOR PREPARING
Preparatory processes are necessary for removing impurities from fibers and for improving their aesthetic appearance and processability as fabrics prior to dyeing, printing, and/or mechanical and functional finishing. SINGEING may be necessary to produce a smooth and uniform fabric surface, while SIZING is necessary to prevent breakage and lower processing speeds of a variety of natural
and synthetic fiber yarns during their weaving.
SCOURING is practiced to remove impurities from all types of natural and synthetic fibers; however, special scouring processes and CARBONIZATION methods are required to remove a variety of impurities  and waxes from wool.
BLEACHING AGENTS AND OPTICAL BRIGHTNERS are utilized on all types of fibers to improve their appearance and to render them more uniform for subsequent dyeing and finishing processes.
MERCERIZATION with alkali or TREATMENT WITH LIQUID AMMONIA(for cellulosics and in some instances for cellulose/synthetic fiber blends) improves the moisture sorption, dye uptake and functional fabric properties. Although purification and pretreatments are generally conducted in certain sequences, they have also been employed at different stage of dyeing and finishing to obtain the desired fabric properties.

MILD TYPE FOR METAL COMPLEX DYEING
1)Hydrocarboxylate
2)Colorless liq., Nonionic, pH(1%)7.5
With metal complex dyes, the use of this is especially preferable, so that the metal is not removed from the dye molecule

SEQUESTERING OR CHELATING AGENTS such as EDTA to solubilize insoluble inorganic substances present in hard water.
- The use of stabilizers permits bleaching to be conducted at alkaline pH and serves two important functions: they slow the rate of peroxide decomposition under alkaline conditions, and combine with or neutralize metal impurities(iron being the most detrimental and to a lesser extent, copper, tin lead, lead and brass) which may catalyze decomposition of peroxide and induce fiber damage. Sodium silicate is still the stabilizer of choice in most commercial peroxide bleaching processes because of its ability to buffer the peroxide solution against metal impurities and because it increase the pH of the bleaching bath. Hoever, its disadvantages are that it may cause fiber tendering and uneven dyeing behavour. Therefore, a variety of organic stabilizers(SEQUESTERING AGENTS) for peroxide bleaching baths are frequently utilized.
Of the major classes of organic sequestering agents, oranophosphonates are considered to be more suitable than EDTA. This is due to their greater resistance to oxidation in bleaching baths and because they produce whiter fabrics by preventing precipitation of silicates when used in combination with this stabilizer.
